Tay Jizzle & tsuji - Day & Night - 6.8 out of 10

Bonez Cobain Rating: 6.8 out of 10

Wasn’t sure what to expect in this project. I heard of it through a friend, 2 UConn students get together, rap heavy, guitar heavy, so I asked for a copy. Opening track was very surprising. Great setup for the rest of a tape. I decided I would give this a full listening but the time I had reached “I Don’t Wanna Go”, this track is amazing, it’s been on replay since. I suggest you give this one a good listen, you can find it on datpiff, for what it is I appreciate the concept. The only reason this tape is getting a low rating is because it’s not necessarily the music I enjoy, and I do the judging on my personal tastes. Sorry guys, I do enjoy the stand out tracks and hope you guys work together more. They do their thing.

Stand Out Tracks:

“In The Night”

“I Don’t Wanna Go”

“Be Afraid”

“Sunshine”

My Excuse! I’m Busy, Seriously…

Just been busy getting school shit together and court shit and being with my son, I’ll have something new by the end of the week. Sorry yall. Peace.

Su Bailey - Goodluck and Goodnight - 7.9 out of 10

Artist: Su Bailey

Project: “Goodluck and Goodnight”

Released: Not Sure

Bonez Cobain Rating: 7.9 out of 10

Su does it again. This tape is strong, opening with  the “Druggys W Hoes” instrumental he kills that shit, he’s sayin real shit on this truck. The production on this mix-tape is really good as well, not sure if all of the beats are jacked or not but it doesn’t matter. The music is really good chill music, shit I can let play without skippin around. I fucks with the tribe, for sure. Glad I gave this a solid listen.

Ab-Soul is the fuckin man…if you don’t know now you know. Thanks to Bonez Cobain…

Black & Blue: Legends of The Hip-Hop Cop (2006) - 4.9 out of 10

“Black & Blue: Legends of The Hip-Hop Cop” (2006)

Director: Peter Spirer

Bonez Cobain Rating: 4.9, and that’s generous.

The movie is only getting a rate this high because it exposes the NYPD and other police departments for singling out black men, literally, there isn’t one guy in the infamous “folder” of rappers being watched. The backgrounds were wack, most of the movie was a collage from other interviews and not actually people speaking for this movie. The green screens were so corny it was so obvious this movie was low-income trash that probably made someone a cool million. In addition to that, the actual ‘hip-hop cop’ was an asshole and beat around the bush with the questions in the actual interview. Don’t waste your time on this one guys. Apparently there’s a book, I wouldn’t read that shit either. It doesn’t even deserve a 4.9, I just enjoyed the exposure the actual truth got that the police were illegally conducting investigations on people who weren’t actually doing anything illegal. police were labeling them 100% solely on the fact they were a rapper. Like I said, don’t waste your time.

Ab-Soul - Longterm 2: Lifestyles of The Broke & Almost Famous - 9.2 out of 10

Artist: Ab-Soul

Project: “Longterm 2: Lifestyles of the Broke and Almost Famous”

Released: Not Sure

Bonez Cobain Rating: 9.2 out of 10

MAN! This mixtape is fucking ill bruh. “What a nigga gotta do to shock the whole nation? Sign to Roc Nation? Become a fucking mason? Monopolize and prophesize an abomination?” — This has to be one of the hottest pieces I’ve heard in a minute. I thought this tape was going to be a let-down. I was wrong as fuck! Ab-Soul gets much respect from the Bonez Cobain blog for sure. This dude is real as fuck, I judge RAPPERS by how much I can relate to their message. “Soul Cry” really had me bobbin my cranium hard. This shit is fuckin hot man. You guys really have to check my guy out, if you really enjoy hip-hop music, your going to appreciate Ab. I can’t really say too much more, you have to listen to understand how good this guy is. Please. Do yourself a favor, track after track Ab kills this fucking tape…best of luck to him and Top Dawg.

Stand Out Tracks:

“May Day”

“Soul Cry”

“Turn Me Up”

“Rush”

(Really all of these tracks are stand-outs, Ab really is the shit MAN!)

Life In A Day (2011) - 10 out of 10

“Life In A Day” (2011)

Director: Youtube, People All Around The World…

This documentary style film is a great watch, seriously. It takes place on July 24th 2010. Film-makers all over the world, professional and amateur record their day and Youtube puts it all together as a movie. I know, it sounds simplistic and somewhat stupid but it’s amazing. To see how other cultures around the world live, to see how each persons life is different, it really puts life into perspective. This movie is sick, and I can’t wait to watch it again, not soon though. This movie is amazing and it’s available FREE on Youtube. I watched it on Netflix and thought it was going to be dumb, I was wrong. Check this flick out though, it’s amazing. I gotta watch this Obama Youtube interview now. Seriously, WATCH THIS SHIT!

Got this from one of my homies, makes sense!

Su Bailey - The Saturns 7.7 out of 10

Artist: Su Bailey

Project: “The Saturns”

Released: November 2011

Bonez Cobain Rating: 7.7 out of 10

WARNING! In order to enjoy this album you need to have an open mind. You can’t listen this album if you aren’t a true fan of music in general. This is not a hip-hop album. Bailey’s production is off the hook. Because of the music alone I can’t label this hip-hop, definitely hip-hop focused though. The use of horns, drums and noises I’ve never even heard before flood the speakers. Su Bailey’s flow is calm and collective, can definitely hear some Cudi in him though. Certain tracks take me back to when I was 16 listening to Jill Scott, the chick featured on some of the tracks matches perfect with those beats.Although he keeps the same tempo throughout most of the tracks, he’s creative. I can definitely fuck with TR!BE GVNG and when I get a chance I’ll check out the other mixtapes by Su but I suggest, for your own good, head over to http://tribegang.tumblr.com/ click music and download this mixtape for free. He can also sing, which he showcases on this mix-tape well. This is a great movement and the fact they followed me on Tumblr shows they are down to Earth, well, maybe Saturn. But if you aren’t a true music fan you may not enjoy this, but I think Su Bailey is cool with that.

Stand Out Tracks:

“The 22nd Letter”

“NY is Killing Me”

“The Saturns” (ILL ASS TRACK!)

“Friends With Benefits”

words to live by.

words to live by.

Ab-Soul - Day In A Life … I only give you good music to listen too, Gotta listen people…

Dark Days (2000) - 9.3 out of 10

“Dark Days” (2000)

Director: Marc Singer

Dark Days is a must see. Singer takes a deep look into the underground life of New York City. Literally, the subjects of this film live in the subways of NYC, in which they are living surprisingly comfortable. Other than 1 subject most seem to be drug-free and even choosing to live this life. I can appreciate the peace of mind that these people have living in the dark, especially being a socially-awkward, bi-polar, anti-socialite. These people live amongst rats, sewage and who knows what else, yet they are totally cool with living with these conditions. This movie is a must-see and the only reason it didn’t get a 10 is because it’s completely in black and white which pissed me off. Yeah I wanted to see some kind of color although I know taping in color would have made half the movie unwatchable. If you have Netflix you can find the movie on there, it’s sick. There is little vulgarity and a very small amount of crack-smoking. Check it out, enlighten yourself, these people live in the subways of NYC and still have a will to survive. Of course they were perfectly happy down there, causing no harm, and the city makes them destroy their homes and move into state-funded housing. I kind of wish they left them alone and I could go visit em. This movie is worth the hour and a half and wouldn’t hurt if it went longer. If you do watch it, please do with an open mind, don’t sit there like ew, gross, how do they live like that. Big deal, people’s psyche allow them to develop different tolerances to levels of sanitation.
